Dr. Kevin E. Ritzenthaler, D.C., D.C.B.C.N.
I grew up always knowing that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others. But it wasn’t until my second year of college that a close friend opened my eyes to the world of chiropractic. As soon as he did, I knew that was it for me. I was going to become a chiropractor. The philosophy of healing patients from within, without the use of often-harmful drugs or surgery, rang true with me. Since then, I have been grateful every day for the opportunity to help so many people in such a special way.
Passionate About Nutrition
In 2005, I began pursuing my other passion, nutrition. I entered the 2-year post-graduate diplomat program in clinical nutrition at Northwestern Health Sciences University, which I completed in 2007. I have also written and published research and case studies in the field of clinical nutrition.
Functional Medicine at Innovative Health
My specialty is Functional Medicine. One of the most common concerns I hear from patients is that the medications they’re taking don’t actually make them healthier. They are still a sick person, just with fewer symptoms. That’s exactly where Functional Medicine steps in.
Chronic disease is an epidemic in the United States, and it is estimated that 70–80% of all chronic diseases are directly linked to diet and lifestyle. Functional Medicine focuses on the primary prevention and treatment of the underlying causes of serious chronic illness, rather than merely masking symptoms.
In order to determine the true, underlying cause of a patient’s condition, I will gather a detailed health history, conduct a physical exam, and run lab tests. Once all of the data is in, I create a personalized treatment plan designed to restore health, not just manage disease.
I believe Functional Medicine will transform the practice of primary care as we know it. The experiences and results I have personally seen from this type of care have been amazing.
I am always excited to meet a new patient for the first time, knowing that I may be able to impact their life in ways they never thought possible.
